Is Your Website Costing You Business?

Yes, your website might be costing you customers, especially if you serve a local market. How is that possible? Glad you asked.

Most business owners realize at this point that having a website is a necessary part of doing business these days. So when you opened your restaurant 4 years ago you did your due diligence and had a nice beautiful website built and opened your doors. You added your hours of operation, menus, some nice interior shots and, of course, some pictures of delicious entrees – everything a visitor might find helpful. And then you promptly forgot about the site and got busy running your business.

What’s wrong with this picture? Well, for starters chances are your menu offerings have changed during the past 3 years and, even if they haven’t, the prices probably have. Oh, and remember a few months ago you decided that Wednesdays were always slow and decided not to open that day? Good decision, but your site still shows open on Wednesday from 4 – 10. And the Chicken Parm for $11.99 is now $15.99.

I will personally attest that it’s no fun checking out a site to make sure the business is open only to find it closed when you got there. Or to find it open but the menu you saw on the site is 2 years out of date and the Veal Saltimbocca that brought you there is no longer on the menu. At best it’s frustrating to the patron and at worst they may just not come back at all.

The moral of the story is to check your site periodically to ensure the information is current so you don’t accidentally annoy a potential customer. Oh, and while you’re doing that it wouldn’t hurt to check your Google Business Profile for all the same reasons mentioned above.
